Kilema Hospital is a council designated Hospital (CDH) located in Nkyashi village at the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro at an altitude of 1500 meters above the sea level, and around 50 kilometres from Moshi Municipality. The hospital mainly serves the eastern half of Moshi Rural district, a population of around 216.495 people. The hospital has a capacity of 150 beds.

Internship profile

Typical day and tasks of an intern

Students of medicine and nursing can do an elective placement or internship, either in just one department, or they can rotate through various departments. They will be assigned to a supervising physician or nurse who decides which examinations and treatments the student can carry out under their supervision, which might include drug administration, wound care, taking vital signs, giving vaccinations and assisting with other tasks. The usual working hours are Monday to Friday from 08:30 am to 03:00 pm including one hour of lunch break. If you want, you can also work on Saturdays and Sundays. At the surgery theatre the working hours are usually from 10:00 am to 08:00 pm.

Interns/elective students/volunteers should bring their own scrubs (white, green or blue), closed shoes (colour doesn't matter). It is furthermore recommended to bring one's own hand disinfection liquid and one's own stethoscope. Those who want to join surgery should please bring green or blue surgery scrubs, face mask and hood.

As soon as you have sent us your complete application documents, we will submit your application to the hospital and can usually give you a confirmation within a few work days. Then you decide whether you want to take the place. Before that there are no costs for you. You will be assigned a supervisor from your field who will look after you during your elective. If your university / school has special requirements regarding the supervision of your elective, please let us know so that we can inform the hospital.
